CATFISH RISING

To balance my 4 and 5 star Jethro Tull reviews, I'll review this album! The 1 star rating is my advice that this is a Jethro Tull album to keep well clear of. After the hard rock brilliance of Crest of a Knave and the reasonable follow up Rock Island, we get Catfish Rising. The problem I have with this album is that it's difficult to tell that there's a whole band there playing. The album is mainly vocal with some light background instrumentals. This Is Not Love is a reasonably catchy tune but there's just so much on this album that seems like filler. The lyrics on the album are sometimes interesting but I feel that this is an album where lyrical content was considered more important than musical content.
