GLOSSOLALIA

GLOSSOLALIA are an Oresund Space Collective side project, however enlarged with US poet Dan McGuire and Sienna Root's KG West - all in all fifteen likeminded musicians this time on an arsenal of instruments. In comparison to the known output this mainly leaves the common jazzy space jam path, is generally more spiritual, hallucinatory and even cacophonous in parts. Once again recorded at the famous Black Tornado Studios in Copenhagen, at least partially, this appears as something really new to me, as I'm aware of nearly every OSC album. KG West has a large share for the indo/raga substance with his sitar, concerning this special spirit during the session recordings.

Besides some common space rock elements the band also implements fine accentuated oriental tabla, percussion, glockenspiel. This is blended to a haunting mixture all in all, based on a peaceful, mesmerizing ambience. Thaumaturgy meanders into an intriguing hallucinatory atmosphere, sitars take a backseat after a while - so much the more wonderful echoed space guitars get in the lead here, plus some sparkling piano in the back - this gives me the shivers really! And spoken word artist Dan McGuire offers a mode of expression with special ease - better than Timothy Leary ever was able to.

Glancing Back is a challenge due to a cacophonous behaviour, backed by a jazzy flow every instrument goes wild, only the narrator contrasts. He always, really always keeps cool. Then I have problems to find any folklore as such in Folklore - so I'm inclined to smell some intended pun here. Okay, there is an oriental arabesque dance vibe, twistet though with a special cosmic attitude, which means comprising space synths and guitars. Definitely impressing! Even the bass goes dancing in some way. I've never heard such a compositional attempt and implementation, fantastic! The album's centerpiece in my opinion.

GLOSSOLALIA are an indo/raga/space rock collaboration who start a fire, believe me. Probably it takes some time to see the light or to feel the warmness. Not every song is a shimmering highlight, but the three aforementioned tracks alone are worth it to check this album out.
