BIOSKOP FOX

On the first listen I did not like "Bioskop Fox". This was made in 1995 by the refreshed version of the band: only guitarist-leader Mihajlovic-Tocak and drummer Stojanovic remained from the old line-up. They recruited younger musicians, including Stojanovic Jr. on the second drum kit, and additional guitarist instead of a keyboards player. The sound was therefore quite different from the one we knew so well; it is not that the "prog" elements were completely abandoned (for me, making "progressive" music hardly means pure presence of keyboards instruments in a band!), but the music was clearly more structured on the model of heavy metal, thanks in particular to the twin guitars sound and singing style of young Dejan Najdanovic. So, to some extent, you can find elements of the so-called prog-metal style. After few listens this album proves to be worth hearing. Nothing special, but it rocks hard and shows sincerety and orthodoxy of an isolationist outcast attitude, among the political turmoil in the years when the rock scene nearly vanished following the unhappy destiny of the "ex" country.
