3 stars MURKY RED were/are a six piece band out of Belgium, who we last heard of in 2015. Sounding very much like a combination of several classic rock bands like THE DOORS, PINK FLOYD and BLACK SABBATH especially. Bluesy and heavy are the words that come to mind. And that second album "No Pocus Without Hocus" is a solid 4 star record in my opinion. And while there's not a lot of differences between the two as far as the music goes, there's a big difference in the production.

The late Colin Tench who I messaged with on here many times back in the day, did the producing and mixing on both. But he decided to give this the debut a "sound" worthy of a late sixties record, and I'm not a fan at all. Funny, but "murky" is a word I'd use to describe the production. The second album sounds so much better. Funny, I wanted to spin that second one before this review and I had trouble finding it. I keep my music in sub-genres, and just assumed it would be in "Heavy Prog", but no, I finally found in my Psychedelic section as in heavy psychedelics. "Crossover" just doesn't seem right for this type of music.

So we get eleven tracks here worth around 55 minutes. I was glad to read Angelo's reviews on both of these albums, as I rated them the same as he did. The guitar from Stef Flaming is bluesy in the Gary Moore style, but throw in some of that soaring Gilmour style as well. Yolanda Flaming plays keyboards but they take a back seat to Stef's guitar and vocals. Yolanda does sing lead on a couple of tracks though. A lot of mid-paced tunes here with that FLOYD atmosphere. Lyrics are so classic rock singing about women and being a rebel. In that regard check out the picture for the bio of this band. Hilarious!

There really isn't any tracks that stand out for me. I do like that it's a uniform sounding record but it's that "sound" I'm not into. That is all taken care of on the second, and as of now their final album from 2015. That's the one to get!
