3 stars Clearly influenced by ELP, YES, and Genesis, Albatross released a solid record, worthy of being explored by any Symphonic Prog fan. My opinion, track by track:

Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Straight out of ELP's catalog, it's the definitive song of the album. Beautiful melodies and a powerful singer, many things to offer in it's 14:23 minutes of length. I will definitely listen to it again!

Mr. Natural: It begins with some rather disturbing, twisted vocals, before turning into a very YES-like song. The intended cacophonies of Eclectic Prog influences like King Crimson can also be heard here, but only in the details. Good for its kind!

Devil's Strumpet: Very strong Genesis vibes here, this song could be part of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. A groovy prog composition, that begins and ends with a wall of keyboards. Pretty good song, too!

Cannot Be Found: Piano-and-voice composition, a sweet and quiet song. Pianist Mark Dahlgren sounds fantastic, it's a pity he did nothing after this album! My favorite piece from this album, elegant and majestic at the same time!

Humpback Whales: A playful composition, almost like a song for kids, again with strong ELP vibes. A nice song to close a very good album.

Rating:
A very promising debut, but unfortunately the only album Albatross ever released. With experience and maturity, they could have done great things in the future. Not my kind of music exactly, but I perceive it as a praiseworthy work and a great addition to any classic prog fan's collection. 3.5 stars, but closer to 3 than 4.
