4 stars 4.5 stars. When it comes to psychedelic music it doesn't get much better than anything that David Schmidt(SULA BASSANA) is involved with. His collaborations with GURU GURU and ELECTRIC ORANGE are absolute classics, but he's also part of ZONE SIX and ELECTRIC MOON. There is so much incredible music just in those projects I just mentioned, but also under his alias SULA BASSANA he has released around 20 studio albums, often going into an electronic direction.

My top three SULA BASSANA albums include his debut that I'm still fond of from 2002 called "The Dreamer", but the best of the best are 2009's "The Night" and this one "Dark Days" from 2012. These last two I mentioned are part of my "best of" psychedelic and related list. "Dark Days" is a powerful album with lots of depth pretty much all done by Dave but he added a Swedish male singer on the opener briefly, as well as drummer Pablo Carneval from ELECTRIC MOON. Komet Lulu the bass player from ELECTRIC MOON did the cover art, which is amazing as usual.

Man the variety of synths is impressive and used just the way I like them, creating layers and depth. A sonic display that almost requires headphones for full effect. We get six tracks worth over 71 minutes and those first four could not be more perfect. EROC mastered this album. It was actually spending time with this album almost four years ago that motivated me to do my "best of" psychedelic list. This is my music people!

A couple of albums in a similar style to "Dark Days" that I'd recommend are both from ELECTRIC MOON. "Stardust Rituals" a five star release in my opinion, and "Doomsday Machine" which is a little darker and heavier than I'd like, but given the title I get it.
