WBAB-FM RADIO BROADCAST

Back in their early years, Crack The Sky was an extremely tight and creative group. The rhythm section of bassist Joe Macre and drummer Joey D'Amico were unusually well syncronized, the dual lead guitars of Rick Witkowski performed spectacular pyrotechnics, and added unusual fills in the live versions of the songs, and singer/keyboardist/guitarist JohnPalumbo wrote and sang great humorous heavy prog.

This album has always been a rarity. Originally distibuted only to radio stations, a few compies found their way to used record stores, but was always difficult to find. A CD was released it the late 80s (with this album and a few tracks from "Live Sky"), but it went out of print quickly.

The recording, taken from a live radio broadcast, is a bit rough sounding, but the performance is great. It shows the band having fun, adding to the original studio versions by adding the fills mentioned above, and extended jams that could veer quite far into weirdness. Ice inparticular goes very mellow, with some nice mellotron and guitar work, before it builds back up to heavines. Rangers At Midnight always sounds a bit Genesis-influence (in a good way).
