3 stars This is the third album by bassist Shob, who along with other musicians run through a series of styles from African rhythm-inspired fusion through Funk and even some Hip Hop. Just two of the songs contain vocals, and for the most part the music is being led by Shob with drummer Morgan Berther (who also played on the other two releases), with guitars and keyboards, plus some brass and African percussion when the time is right. I am guessing one has to be in the mood for this album, as although it is severely impressive in terms of musicianship, I found that for the most part this washed right over me. I just don't enjoy all the different styles on offer, which makes it hard for me to get excited over it. I know this is an album I have only played as I have to write about it, and the CD will find its place on my shelves never to be played again. That he is an incredible musician is never in doubt, and the production is strong as well, but while I enjoy fusion with the best of them, this one just isn't for me.
