Siena Root's debut album is a big fat helping of retro-heavy psychedelic action. At points they become reminiscent of the classic early work of the likes of Uriah Heep or Deep Purple (Oskar Lundström's organ work being key here), but never quite to the extent that they are outright ripping them off - more that in terms of their throwback sound you could imagine Siena Root sharing a stage with either band back in 1969-1970 or thereabouts. As the album progresses they tend towards longer and more intricate songs, demonstrating an adept mastery of the genre. Though it's over an hour long, it feels like it breezes by in a substantially shorter span of time - the sure sign of an album which hasn't wasted its time on filler - though equally, there's enough that's retrogressive about this that if you already own a sufficient cross section of classic-period heavy psych and don't feel a desperate urge to get more there's little need to get too excited about this.
