1 stars A single single

Eva was the first single released from the band's first effort without their operatic lead singer now replaced by Anette Olzon from their album Dark Passion Play. This single is a questionable effort because all they did really is slap some art work on a song (which was in the album notes anyways) and release it. This is likely due to the now widespread use of internet download releases meaning that the single could be downloaded alone, but you could do that anyways when given the choice of the whole album. Really, there was no need for this, so the release baffles me completely. There's only one song on this release (Eva), and with no b-sides, live tracks or even more a-sides there's no reason to get this cd other than to own another Nightwish release.

Let's face it too, while the song itself is rather good it's not your typical Nightwish. Most people who listen to the band do so because they're a very heavy band who likes to rock, and this is one of their slower songs. Not that that's a bad thing, as they're quite good at slow songs when they want to be, but it's hard to understand why they'd expect you to dish out money for a song that's already on the album, and a slow one at that. I suppose since it was the first single it would have been a chance for fans to listen to the band before the album came out - but please! Put another track on there. The best reason to buy singles nine times out of ten is for the b-sides that won't be on the album when it comes out. A single that is just one song is... pointless.

Unless you must own every Nightwish album (and on a prog site a doubt there's many people like this) this is a release which can be skipped. 1 star.
