5 stars Salviction rises from the depths with a very diverse and diversely influenced style of post metal; they immediately cite post metal and sludge metal influences, but I find them also very reminiscent of the kind of interlude including prog death practiced by the likes of Morbus Chron, with those interludes variously sounding like the post rock/alt rock combo of Blueneck or even stoner rock. Why run out of breath mentioning all these influences? Because the magic of the band's first full length album, "Grief-Stricken", is their excellent mixing of these eclectic influences at various times, and how well they then play this stew. Each track is particularly fresh and unique, with the band never using every available facet of their stylistic palate on a single one. Some are more rock heavy than metal leaning. The interludes are only ever Blueneck influenced alone, or Kyuss influenced alone. Their sludgy side comes and goes like a dancing shadow. This is quite simply a fantastic listen of a stylistic, metallic crock pot. Highly recommended to metalheads in general.
