3 stars Although this DT debut suffers from muddy production it still got fine hints of what to come later the bands career, and tracks like 'The Killing Hand' and 'Set the Sun' displays the bands prog-metal sound in a nice way. Still miles away from Fates Warning and Watchtower's stuff at the time, but DT definitely took notes from those kind of bands too, which is further fleshed out on 'Images & Words'. The weakest link here would be the vocals from Dominici who struggles to keep 'in pitch' with the band and could be an acquired taste (!) for some. He does a decent enough job here, but would be replaced by LaBrie for later albums. And even though DT are still very young on this album, their chops are absolutely in place here and provides some good momentum going, including 'Ytse Jam' - an early DT classic to this date. A nice example of early prog-metal, and fans of the band should check it out.
