TENTERHOOKS

Jung People are a Canadian duo who has been creating music since 3 years ago, their sound tends to the post-rock side, and nowadays they have released a couple of full-length albums and an EP. The one I will review is their latest album, entitled "Tenterhooks" which consists of five songs, making a total time of 32 minutes or pretty nice music.

The first track is "Keep Calm/Carry On" which has a soft sound but fast at the same time, one can be walking or running and enjoying the music at the same time, though to be terribly honest, there are moments where it bores me a little bit, fortunately, when I thought I would skip the track, the music became heavier and more interesting. "Coloureaters" starts calm with keyboards, then drums (or programming) appears and some other sounds are joining little by little, this time the mood is relaxing, but then in my humble opinion, the song is ruined by the vocals due to the use of a vocoder, which not always is favorable, here it is not.

"Orient b." is the shortest track here, it has piano on it bringing repetitive notes for the first minute, later other instruments join and the tracks begins to build up a structure, the mood is in the softest side of post rock, even it could be named n ambient track. "To Leave a Home" is a touchy track, it starts again with piano, putting beautiful nuances, it progresses and little by little new elements appear, however, I don't really find the climax here, so in my opinion it does not have a goal.

The final track is surely the best, "Our Enemies are Dead; O' Wilderness Pullulate" with 11 minutes of nice music. The song progresses, while it starts slow, later it becomes faster and more emotional, the energy can be easily perceived, it is evident after the third minute they wanted to explode and offer something heavier, which is good. However, I was not really caught, their music never made me say wow or "man, this is something", no, I could simply listen to them as one of the bunch, sadly.

The album in my opinion is not really bad, but not good, it lacks of structure, of a goal, the songs overall lead to nowhere, so despite my ears listened to them, I don't remember their passages, so it is completely forgettable. My final grade will be one star. However, I am sure there will be people who like it.
