Ex Curia / Sky Signals biography
EX CURIA is a progressive metal outfit with influences that span across elements of post metal as well as extreme metal but with an accessible foundation, with influences including KARNIVOOL, OPETH and TOOL. Based in Sydney, Australia, the band was founded in 2010 and began releasing demos in 2011 while honing their craft with numerous live shows. In 2013 they self-released their first album, ''Reasoned Insanity'', and toured along the eastern coast of Australia. In December of 2014 they released the single ''Amaterasu'' as a precursor to the band's next album.

Biography by Prog Sothoth

Edit: EX CURIA started out as an outlet for Sydney based singer-songwriter/producer James DEVLIN, who wanted to begin writing some heavier and more complex music. By 2010 EX CURIA had settled on a 6-piece initial lineup consisting of Stuart HOPE on bass, Blake RANDELL on vocals, synths and programming, Rob ANDERSĖN on guitar, Matt PANOPOULOS also on guitar, Lachlan BROWN on drums and James DEVLIN on vocals, and they began composing songs for a concept album that James had named 'Reasoned Insanity'.

Dan BERRY replaced Blake RANDELL on keyboards in 2011, Rob ANDERSĖN took over from Stuart HOPE on bass (as well as continuing to contribute guitar and backing vocals), and they recorded 'The First Demo' as a five-piece. They then released two singles in 2012, with Rob SEYCHELL now augmenting Matt PANOPOULOS as the band's second guitarist, thus allowing Rob ANDERSĖN to concentrate on bass. They also teamed up with Urchin Productions in 2012 to record three film clips for songs to be included on the 'Reasoned Insanity' debut album, which was eventually released at the end of March 2013.

Guitarists Rob SEYCHELL and Matt PANOPOULOS left the band in the summer of 2012 after the recording of the debut album was finished, with Natty SHERWOOD and Bobby OBLAK taking over from them, though Matt continued to work on a black metal project he was involved in with EX CURE bassist Robert ANDERSĖN called GALADH. Drummer Lachlan BROWN by now had changed his name to Lachlan BLACKWOOD.

Natty SHERWOOD was soon replaced by Nabhan RAHMAN on guitar in 2012, with the other guitarist, Bobby OBLAK, being replaced by Micah BEEL sometime in 2014, and eventually after all these membership changes and some shifts in musical tastes it was decided that a new direction was needed along with a new name and image.

So, the band took a bit of a break to recharge its ba...
