Mike SPARKS (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Robert CHEEK (guitar, keyboard) and John O'CONNELL (drums) were all originally in the Sacremento outfit BRIDGES, but then in 2007 they moved to Seattle and it was here that they met Jack CLEMENS (bass guitar, synthesizer) and decided to change the band name to BY SUNLIGHT.

In 2008, they released their debut under the new band name, and it featured forty minutes of continuous music with each song flowing into the next without interruption. This approach became a hallmark of the band's live performances, as well, which they continued to develop over the years with frequent touring. 2010 saw the release of two new songs, ''Sung Surrender'' and ''No More Miracles'', and then in Spring of 2012 they added a fifth member in Evan FERRO (vocals, guitar, keyboard) and returned to the studio to work on their next album, 'PENUMBRA', which was released on Christmas Eve 2013.

Their stated aim is to continue to hone their craft with one goal: to create original art that?s inspiring and challenging for both the band and their audience.
