The Luna Moth biography
US trio THE LUNA MOTH was formed in 2003, consisting of Levi Fuller (bass), Mark Schlipper (guitars) and Kelly Minnis (drums). The threesome recorded and released their debut album "The Compass That Only Points East" just over a year later in September 2004. Work on a second album ground to a halt when drummer Minnis opted to leave, but in 2007 Kenny Day joined the ranks and his contributions can be heard on The Luna Moth's first EP "Thunderous & Deluge" from February 2008. Proceedings again stopped up when Day alos decided to leave for pastures new, but sometime around 2010 Dan Colavito agreed to take up the vacant drummer slot. With the band again in function a new album was recorded, and 8 years after the release of their debut album The Luna Moth's sophomore production "Speak Destination" was made available to the public in January 2012. As of 2013 The Luna Moth is an active live entity, and the threesome are also preparing material for a new album.
The Luna Moth explore a style of music that is described as a more or less equal blend of post-rock, stoner rock and shoegaze, with an emphasis on drones. Comparisons have been made towards the likes of Low and Mogwai.
