Reifrock biography
Reifrock formed in 1977 and was made up of 6 artists from Oberhausen who had plied their trade on covers bands in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In the interim, they became inspired by the folk rock revival and bands like FAIRPORT CONVENTION, STEELEYE SPAN and their countrymen OUGENWEIDE. They decided to focus on resuscitating old German folk songs, blending in some originals in that style, using a combination of traditional and rock instrumentation.

IN 1981 they released their first album, Unter Einem Hut (Under a Hat). They toured with such celtic rock luminaries as ALAN STIVELL, the FUREYS AND DAVEY ARTHUR, and BROSELMASCHINE. Unfortunately, they had not emerged in the most folk friendly of eras, and by 1990 all original members were gone. Guitarist Till Bittroff continued with mew members and the band released two more CDs in the 1990s, Ritter, Rauber unt Zigeuner and Ungeschoren, eventually disbanding in 2003.

In 2010, the original group reformed and have been active at folk festivals. No new studio work has yet emerged.
