SO IS THE TONGUE are a three-piece progressive metal band from New Jersey, started in 2005 by guitarist/vocalist RON VAROD (KAYO DOT) and drummer JUSTIN THOURET. The group quickly became a three-piece with the addition of bassist GREG MEISENBERG. They digitally self-released their debut album ''Torpid & Blight'' in 2007 (and later on CD in 2009 on Sound Devastation Records) and followed up with their sophomore album ''A Child of Divorce'' in January 2012.

SO IS THE TONGUE's style of progressive metal is steeped in the experimental and avant-garde mentality of many modern underground acts of the upper East Coast metal scene while drawing influence from contemporary progressive rock acts worldwide. The majority of their music can be classified as darker, heavier progressive rock in the vein of PORCUPINE TREE with the experimental tendencies of later KAYO DOT releases, but the band is prone to occasional outbursts of extremely heavy, violent, and unpredictable metal, closer in style to the heavier moments of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME or EAST OF THE WALL. Contrast is a key element to their music, and SO IS THE TONGUE will appeal to progressive metal fans who like their music emphatic and unpredictable.
