Section 3B biography
Heavy metal with a flute might not be the most original idea in the galaxy, but SECTION 3B pull it off with grace and talent. A largely Scandinavian band (members are drawn from Norway, Holland and New Zealand) with a penchant for going by first names only, the group first materialized in 1997 on a demo tape featuring Yme on guitar, bass, keyboards and programming, and Kjetil on vocals. By 1998, Ingar had been added on bass, Yme had switched to guitar and vocals (Kjetil was nowhere to be found), and Adreas on organ, along with various drummers. Unfortunately, this version of the band folded. However, in 2005, the band reformed in what is the current lineup today (Yme still guitar and vocals and now keys, Ingar still bass, Mark on drums and Styn on flute), the band took material that they had been working on for the past eight years and hammered it into shaped (Kjetil even popped by the studio to lay down guitar lines). This resulted in ten songs, completed and fully polished in 2007, and released in January 2008 as the album Mechanical Emotions.

The sound of SECTION 3B is a largely metallic one, with frequent folk flourishes. The resulting music is a bit like PORCUPINE TREE on their heavier days, or OPETH on their lighter days (and certainly Styn's flute makes JETHRO TULL comparisons hard to avoid). In other words, anyone who likes their metal with lightly softened edges will find something to enjoy here.
