Deadbird biography
DEADBIRD is a post metal band from Fayetteville, Arkansas. DEADBIRD formed in 2002 by brothers Chuck Schaaf (guitar, lead vocals) and Phillip Schaaf (drums, vocals) with friend Alan Short (guitar, vocals).

The group recorded some material that would become their debut album "The Head and the Heart" in 2003. They sent out copies of this self-released album to several distributors and labels. In 2004, Todd Bohannon (bass) joined the band, and DEADBIRD signed a contract with Codebreaker Records. Codebreaker released "The Head and the Heart" in Europe in March of 2005 and in October in the US/Canada by Earache.

Unable to tour Alan Short left the band temporarily and was replaced by Jay Minish (guitar) who played with Todd and Chuck in their old band DEADEYEJACK. The band has had to overcome some obstacles early in their career from Codebreaker Records dissolving to theft of their touring van and gear.

The bassist Todd Bohannon left the band after their 2005 tour and was replaced with Reid Raley (RWAKE) who Chuck also played with in RWAKE. They signed a deal with At A Loss Records and released "Twilight Ritual" in 2008. The new album was produced by Billy Anderson who is known for working with THE MELVINS, SLEEP, NEUROSIS, SWANS just to name a few.

DEADBIRD have successfully created their own original sound in the over populated southern sludge scene. Its slow southern death sludge heavily influenced of bands like BLACK SABBATH and NEUROSIS. They were approved by the Prog Metal Team and are very highly recommended!
