Blistering Moments biography
BLISTERING MOMENTS were an American post-industrial electronic duo from Texas. The band began when Rik(ky) Wilson was invited to Jim Leggett's house to jam in 1981. Upon arrival, Jim had a Robert Fripp-inspired reel-to-reel "Frippertronics" set up. They played and it sounded terrific. They hit it off and discovered that they both collected records. Rik, the artist, produced band flyers for the local record stores on a weekly basis.
SURGICAL II LS was the first name of the BLISTERING MOMENTS, which they changed just prior to the release of their first album, 1986's Therapeutic Dreams for Blistering Moments (the label boss and others in London thought the music was good, but the name was too industrial sounding and thus suggested a change).
Their first gig was in a record store with twelve attendees, but once the word got out their audience grew. They played many clubs in Houston from 1983-1989. They opened for Fred Frith and Tom Cora (SKELETON CREW) twice, along with John Giorno Band, David Thomas and The Pedestrians (Lindsay Cooper and Chris Cutler), Joe Pop-O-Pie, Alien Sex Fiend, Faith No More and Naked America. The band dissolved in 1990.
Jim and Rik continue to work on other projects together from 1996 to the present. And they had three mellotrons!
