Blizaro biography
BLIZARO is a Progressive Rock/Doom Metal band from Rochester, New York, which is influenced by Italian horror soundtracks and 1970s style progressive rock, and began life as a solo studio project of ORODRUIN multi-instrumentalist and vocalist John GALLO, in which John played all the instruments, with just the odd friend guesting. Eventually other musicians were recruited in order to perform live, including other members of ORODRUIN. BLIZARO's songs often act as dark portals leading off into parallel universes inhabited by mutants, ghosts, ghouls, and other unearthly beings, and the band tells stories of horror and madness using their own unique brand of doom metal.

Musically, the band acts as a bridge between the American way of doing doom and the methods made famous by other Italian artists specializing in the genre, such as Paul CHAIN and BLACK HOLE, whilst combining the heavy-psych/prog rock styles of the 1970s with the fearsome synth-driven soundtracks that GOBLIN and Fabio FRIZZI created for a number of Italian horror movies.

Besides Paul CHAIN, BLACK HOLE and GOBLIN, their influences also include bands such as early DEEP PURPLE, URIAH HEEP, VANILLA FUDGE, WARPIG and early WISHBONE ASH, and after self-releasing a demo called 'Horror Stories' in 2006, BLIZARO released their debut album 'City Of The Living Nightmare' via Razorback Records in November 2010. This album was divided into two halves as if it was a traditional vinyl release, with tracks 1-7 being subtitled 'Physical' and tracks 8-14 'Mental'.

John GALLO played the majority of the instruments during the recording of the album himself, with some occasional assistance from bassists Mark RAPONE & Zachary MINIER, and drummers Michael PULEO & Mike WASKE, who also formed part of the BLIZARO live line-up. Ian DOWNEY of the Rochester-based five-piece BLOOD AND BONE ORCHESTRA also contributed cello to the penultimate track on the album.

A second album called 'Cornucopia Della Morte' was released in April 2016 via I, Voidhanger Records, with Mark RAPONE and Mike WASKE now contributing to the album on bass and drums respectively as fully integrated members of the band. The album was originally set to be released in 2013, but in the end it was shelved to allow John GALLO to focus his mind on the JOHN GALLOW solo project, which released its debut album 'Violet Dreams' on I, Voidhanger Records in July 2014.
