NOVERIA is a progressive metal band based in Rome, Lazio, which was formed in 2014 when guitarist Francesco MATTEI (ex-ETHERNITY) returned to Italy after four years in Finland, where he played under the pseudonym 'Gasoline' for the heavy metal band BATON ROGUE MORGUE. Joining Francesco in the initial line-up were bassist Andrea ARCANGELI and keyboardist Emanuele CASALI of the Italian progressive metal band DGM, with Francesco CORIGLIANO taking care of vocals and Omar CAMPITELLI completing the formation on drums.

The band is influenced by music from the symphonic, industrial and death metal genres, with other sources of inspiration including elements of the heavier side of classic prog, and their goal is to create music with a melodic twist which combines massive guitar riffs and technically challenging solos with atmospheric keyboards. Emanuele CASALI was also the keyboard player in two other Italian progressive metal bands, namely EMPYRIOS and ASTRA, and NOVERIA are regarded in some quarters pretty much as DGM's darker half.

Their debut album 'Risen' was released by Scarlet Records on June 9th 2014, and was all about people trying to survive against the odds in an increasingly difficult World. The album was well received by critics and metal fans alike, and was voted Metalunderground.com's 'Best Metal Newcomer' of the year. The initial recording and production of the 'Risen' album was done by Francesco MATTEI at his own VDM Studio and Apocalypse Recording Studio in Rome, with the final mixing and mastering being handled by Francesco with the assistance of renowned producer and musician Simone MULARONI (DGM, EMPYRIOS) at both the Apocalypse Recording Studio in Rome and Simone's Domination Studios in San Marino, Italy, where Simone also contributed a guest guitar solo to the track 'Fallen from Grace'.

To promote the album, NOVERIA undertook a mini-tour in the north of Italy in addition to playing a few gigs in and around Rome. Then, in 2016, Emanuele CASALI left the band to concentrate on his other numerous projects and was replaced by Julien SPREUTELS of the Belgian progressive metal band EPYSODE and power metal band ETHERNITY. The sophomore album 'Forsaken' is a concept album based on the theory of the five stages of grief by Elisabeth K�bler-Ross and written in memory of an exceptional young woman who was snatched away from her family by an aggressive form of cancer. The album is divided into five chapters dealing in turn with denial, anger, bargaining, depression and finally acceptance. Each song on the album focuses on a different stage of the disease. The guitars, vocals and bass were recorded in Francesco's Apocalypse Studio in Rome, but keyboards were recorded at Julien SPREUTELS's own studio in Belgium. The drum recordings and reampings were done at Simone MULARONI's Domination Studio in San Marino, as was the mixing and mastering.

The 'Forsaken' album was released by Scarlet Records on October 28th 2016, and the same line-up released a third NOVERIA album, called 'Aequilibrium', via the Scarlet label on 25th October 2019. This album was heavily influenced by bands such as SYMPHONY X and the aforementioned DGM, and focuses on the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in Italy. Davide CALABRETTA eventually replaced Omar CAMPITELLI on drums in June 2023 and a fourth album called 'The Gates of the Underworld' was released on 25th August 2023.

This fourth album is a veritable roller-coaster ride focussing on 'the human condition', with its songs encompassing a variety of subjects such as a psychotic break, the escape from a narcissistic relationship, the challenges that need to be faced after surviving a heart attack, and the after effects of a near death experience. Italian singer Fabio LIONE (LABYRINTH, VISION DIVINE, RHAPSODY Of FIRE, ANGRA) provides guest vocals on track three of the album, 'Descent'.

NOVERIA were invited to perform at the World Fest Saarang 2025 in India on January 12th 2025, and announced on 2nd February 2025 that they were 'beyond proud and grateful' to have made history as the first band in 51 editions of the festival (previously known as the 'World Culture Show', this being a platform to showcase culture and talent from various countries around the world) to perform on both the KV Grounds Stage and the Open Air Theater.read more
