Stone Breath biography
Formed in 1995, Stone Breath are an American psychedelic folk band from Red Lion, Pennsylvania. Founded by multi-instrumentalist Timothy Renner as a side project to his primary group Mourning Cloak, Stone Breath's self-described "wyrd folk" combines a love of Tom Rapp and Clive Palmer with influences from traditional Appalachian folksong and Indian devotional music, and has been described as a mix between Ghost, Current 93 and the Incredible String Band. Unlike Mourning Cloak, Renner intended Stone Breath to be an exclusively acoustic affair and a vessel of expression for his Catholic spiritualism.

In 1996, Renner recruited fellow multi-instrumentalist Prydwyn Olvardil Piper (of Green Crown) into the fold, with vocalist/guitarist Sarada Holt completing the lineup, which is occasionally bolstered by a wide cast of supporting players. Renner and Prydwyn performed as Tom Rapp's backing band during his return to the stage in the late 1990's, with Prydwyn participating as a session musician on Rapp's final album, A Journal of the Plague Year. Stone Breath disbanded in 2006 but reformed in 2009, in operation as of 2022 and having released sixteen LPs and over half a dozen EPs during their tenure. As noted by music historian Jeanette Leech in her book, Seasons They Change, Stone Breath, In Gowan Ring and the Iditarod laid the foundation for the burgeoning "freak folk" movement which would blossom in the early 21st century.
