URDOG

Urdog biography
URDOG were an American freak-folk trio from Providence, Rhode Island, in existence from 2002 to 2006. The band consisted of David Lifrieri (guitars/vocals), Erin Rosenthal (percussion/vocals) and Jeff Knoch (organ/vocals). Signed to Secret Eye, they played a hypnotic, droning style of psychedelic rock influenced by krautrock and acid folk, releasing two full-length albums - 2004's 'Garden Of Bones' and 2005's 'Eyelid Of Moon' - and two self-released CD-R experiments during their tenure. The band also contributed a track to the conceptual compilation album Invisible Pyramid: Elegy Box (in which artists paid tribute to recently extinct animal species), with Knoch providing the liner notes. In 2006, URDOG went on hiatus after playing the Terrastock 6 festival in Providence.

Fourteen years later during the early days of the global coronavirus crisis, Chris Reeder and John O'Carroll - long-time URDOG fans and founders of the independent British label Rocket Recordings - reappraised the band's full-lengths while under lockdown and reached out to them to arrange releasing their material on vinyl, which led to the 2021 retrospective album Long Shadows 2003-2006, featuring selections from across their discography. URDOG bear stylistic similarities to Amon Düül II, Six Organs Of Admittance, Fern Knight, Fursaxa, Sunburned Hand Of Ihe Man, Cerberus Shoal and YaHoWa 13.
