Astomatous biography
ASTOMATOUS was an American progressive death metal band from Chicago, Illinois. The group was formed in 2002 around bassist and vocalist Nicholas McMASTER, drummer Lev WEINSTEIN, and guitarists Allen NELSON, Foy David SCALF III and Aaron AVELLONE.

The unsigned ASTOMATOUS independently released their one and only album, "The Beauty of Reason", in 2006 after two years of intermittent recording, tracked by Sanford PARKER and mastered by Colin MARSTON. The band's dizzying MORBID ANGEL and IMMOLATION-influenced death metal was supplemented by violinist Carlos VILLAREAL, who performed on two tracks, and guitarists Mike LERNER (of BEHOLD THE ARCTOPUS), Mike LaROCCO and Tim AHER, who appeared on the song "The Ascetic Ponders."

Their sound is comparable to GORGUTS, ANATA, ATHEIST, SUTRAH, DEATH and, for a few minutes in the song "Astomatous," their successor band KRALLICE.
