Panegyrist biography
Formed by guitarist Brendan MAINE in 2017, PANEGYRIST is an avant-garde unblack metal quintet based in Chicago, Illinois. Visual artist Elijah TAMU soon joined, providing the lyrical and conceptual content that defined the project. Accompanied by Vincent IPPOLITO (guitar), Paul MOORE (bass), David CRAMER (guitar/vocals) and Marcel SZUMOWSKI (drums), PANEGYRIST released their debut "Hierurgy" on I, Voidhanger records in 2018. The album "explores the theme of theosis, the process whereby the individual is transformed and united with God through the operations of the divine energies."

The style can best be described as avant-garde black metal with sections of sacred vocal chants and epic heavy metal with lyrics drawn from prayers and meditations inspired by agony and triumph. PANEGYRIST are stylistically similar to ARCTURUS, SIGH, EMPEROR, DØDHEIMSGARD, HOWLING SYCAMORE, SELCOUTH and SOLEFALD.
