4 stars A very solid Prog Metal song done in the djenty vein of Caligula's Horse, Leprous, and Karnivool--a style of music that I absolutely love. Add into the mix Lynsey's piercingly clear vocals and you have a classic, if imitative, Prog Metal song with some very catchy hooks (including Jonny's incredible bass chord playing). I still can't believe these guys make all their music without ever allowing a guitar into the studio! Genius! Apparently this is a song resurrected from their early explorations while still in LIPA together. Obviously the trio knew they had metal magic running through their veins. We are lucky they brought this one back to life--which makes me wonder what else they passed over/abandoned that could/should reach the public's ears. Also, I wonder in some of these Exploring Birdsong single releases who is doing the background vocal work: is it all layers of Lynsey or are they enlisting the help of Espera and/or other vocalists. (No other artists are listed in the song credits.) Great song! More like this, please!
