Elder, the American psyche stoner-progressive band based in Germany, continues to evolves their music with Live at BBC Maida Vale Studios. The band, made up of frontman and guitarist Nick DiSalvo, bassist Jack Donovan, guitarist/keyboardist Michael Risberg, and drummer Georg Edert, blends prog, rock, stoner, and doom metal to create a unique experience. Since 2006, with six albums, demos, and EPs, Elder has had a big impact on the progressive rock scene. Their sound has changed over time, adding elements of space rock, as shown in their collaboration with Kadavar on Eldovar and Nick DiSalvo's solo project Delving. This live album was recorded during their 2023 European tour at BBC Maida Vale Studios for the Radio 1 Rock Show with Dan Carter. It captures the band's strong live energy. The album runs for nearly 40 minutes with three songs: "Merged in Dreams Ne Plus Ultra" (from Innate Passage, 2022), "Lore" (from Lore, 2015), and "Thousand Hands" (from Reflections of a Floating World, 2017). These songs, taken from different points in their career, fit together seamlessly, showing how Elder consistently creates deep, immersive music. The album also shows Elder's skill at jamming, blending their psyche stoner-progressive roots with influences from early 70s Pink Floyd. They stretch and change the original tracks, adding improvisation to make the songs feel fresh and new. This release brings new life to Elder's classic style, giving listeners a renewed appreciation of their music. Elder evolves like a galaxy, always changing but keeping their core style. Now a more experienced band. However, with only three songs the recording feels short, leaving fans wanting It would have been great if this was longer, as Elder's live performances always make you want to hear more.
