3 stars "Residue" is not properly a studio album but a collection of rarities and outtakes from other records, so the lstener can feel a lack of cohesion among the different songs. Here we can find songs that appeared in the reissue of "Tunes of Two Cities" (Anvil Forest and Open Up), two outtakes from "The Commercial Album (Ups & Downs and Shut Up! Shut Up!, these one featuring Fred Frith), the great Walter Westinghouse (remix form the song appeared in "Babyfingers") and the particular approach to disco music with Diskomo. Also appears the great Snakefinger in some parts

Is it a great record? Well, according to what this band can offer, this is a minor opus. It is reccomended mainly to those who don´t know the band, because they can find here many of their different approaches to music, with great moments htroughout the record (mainly Walter Westinghouse, Anvil Forest and Whoopy Snorp), as well as more relaxed moments (Boy in Love or Open Up). And of course, for completionists of the band, who wil find here songs never appeared on other recordings. For those who already know the band and want to discover their great records, better start with other ones ("Fingerprince", The Mole Trilogy and other of their classic albums, or maybe "Wormwood", "Roadworms", "God in Three Persons" or the incredible "WB:RMX", from their latest records)

For me, it would be 3.5 stars
