4 stars FOR DT FANS ONLY!

Now that I've said it, hope that all of you "Scenes From A Memory Metropolis Part II"-fans go out and buy this fantastic collection. On this fine 2-CD collection we get two alternative versions of DTs fantastic masterpiece. For all of you, who worry about the sound quality, fear not! This OFFICIAL bootleg has exactly the same sound quilty as the studio album, cause it's made out of different studio jams that later made "Scenes From A Memory". Track 13 on the first CD is a must hear for all who enjoy Dream Theater humor! Summary: a great compilation of studio outtakes, that reminds us of Bootlegs like "The Alternative Abbey Road" (Beatles), but with much better sound qulity!

PS http://www.ytsejamrecords.com has a couple of other really great Official Bootlegs that should not be missed!

2 stars EDIT: I like this, but it's for fans only. Don't take me bad, I enjoyed many parts of this huge outtakes album, but this is just not right. Another decreasing of rating. This is not excellent addition to prog collection. In fact, this is maybe for fans only.

I can't imagine someone willingly listening this, when he doesn't like original, Scenes From a Memory. Why to, it would be meaningless. Therefore, this is only for fans of SFaM. Therefore, it's for fan's only I think. But maybe it deserves more. Not much more, only going one star up, but still it can describe quality of this. It's not just unreleased song or two, live version, it's not like normal bootleg. This is special. For fans it's something they don't want just for having it home at shelf, but it's something they will listen. When considering number of rating for SFaM and number of ratings for this, one can't help thinking about how big rarity is this. And I think I can give worse

EDIT 2: 2(+) actually, this is really only for fans, maybe the most precise example of this definition.

2 stars 1999's 'Scenes From a Memory' is not only one of Dream Theater's most beloved and pivotal albums, but also prog's in general. A monumental success for the band and often cited as one of the best concept albums of all time... that doesn't change the fact that you'd have to be the most nerdy virgin possible to actually 'like' this album.

I mean, it's mostly snippets of the album is production. Sound interesting? It's really not. Even for die-hard fans, this is the kind of thing you'd listen to once just for the sake of hearing a documented 'making of' release, only to keep it in your collection for collector's sake.

The second disc features an alternate mix of the entire album, which is mostly why this release gets two stars. The music is fantastic, but why wouldn't you just listen to the actual, final studio product instead of remixes and snippets and demos.

The only real notable thing here is John Petrucci's vocal demo for 'The Spirit Carries On', which is hilariously entertaining.
