THE LIVE CUTS 2000/2001

For a quick history on ARTSRUNI, please check below. "The Live Cuts 2000/2001" features live performances by ARTSRUNI. While I'm not usually impressed by live albums from prog bands, once in a while a prog band comes along that sounds stronger on stage. Those of you who are familiar with the band's newest CD, Cruzaid, will recognize most of the tracks here. The band extends most of the compositions with some great solo work from their guitarist and bassist. The gem, for me, has to be "Ethnophonica (Suite, Part III)". This composition features the band playing with an Orchestra. But the music mixes modern classical with traditional Armenian melodies. The outcome is stunning, especially for fans of 20th Century Classical. Musea should seriously consider releasing the entire suite. While the sound-quality of sounds rather weak, I'm sure this concert was properly recorded or can be fixed up in the mastering studio. Overall, "The Live Cuts 2000/2001" is a treat. With superb playing from every band member, and great sound-quality (aside from "Ethnophonica"), this CD is worth-while.

The real rate would be 4 and 3/4 stars.

This Armenian jewel can be divided in two parts: One, including the first five tracks, where listener will enjoy a sort of a more progressive JETHRO TULL (beautiful flute blended with a little bit of fusion and some energetic guitars); and two, a live magnificent full-symphonic orchestra section, pompous and classic, in addition with short, emotive and beautiful songs (Armenian folk?) performed by an unique male singer (in his native tongue).

Sadly, the orchestral tracks sound is horrible, distracting a little bit the captivating music, and I think that -correcting this negative point- this album would be a must have. Highly recommended.

I have enjoyed Artsruni's Cruzaid for many months and now have recently bought 'Live Cuts'. I am glad I did .It contains all of the positives of Cruzaid but has an extra looseness which in this case benefits the music. The bass playing is magnificient. All in all agreat addition to those who like theuir flute in rock,hghly recommended along with other bands such as the unknown but magnificient UK prog folk flute band Molly Bloom
