A IS FOR AMPLEDEED

Ampledeed is a young band from USA formed by vocalist , guitarist Aaron Goldich from defunct prog rock band The Source who released only two albums. He is helped by another two musicians who were aswell bandmates with him in The Source, Luis Flores and Max Taylor. Ampledeed released first offer last year 2013 named very suggestive A is from Ampledeed. Well, what I like on this band is the great amount of original ideas gathered here. The musicianship is excellent going very easy from mellow passages to more uptempo, always in elegant manner. The music is something between canterbury and jazzy flowours to psychedelic overtones, and all smells big time of early to mid '70s. The music is varied, well constructed, is clear that the musicians involved here play for pleasure not for money, very happy, delightfull passages on many pieces like the opener We Breathe Time, very reminescent of National Health, Soft Machine and alike, another truly inspired and original at best tune at least for me, is the short only 44 seconds It's Hard Work to Work (When You're Hard), what a beautiful and elegant piece, excellent, the analog keyboards are absolutly killer , Wake of the Galaxy and few more are top notch. All in all one of the most pleasent albums of 2013 for sure, I like'em a lot, Amledeed is like a fresh air in over populated prog scene. recommended, 4 stars for sure, digital or CD available on cdbaby. US band AMPLEDEED was formed back in 2011, the result of a series of late night jam sessions that eventually led to the formation of a band unit with the threesome of Aaron, Max and Luis as the permanent members. Following a creative phase the threesome enlisted some musician friends to record the album's worth of material they had assembled, and the end result was self-released in 2013 as the CD "A Is for Ampledeed".

"A Is for Ampledeed" is an album title that speaks volumes for the self-confidence of this young US trio, and at least to some extent, I'd vouch for that confidence to have a firm foundation too. The minor reservation is first and foremost a question of whether or not you find vintage sounding progressive rock to be interesting or not. If you do, and especially if you enjoy bands such as Gentle Giant and King Crimson mixed with jazz-rock and jazz-oriented details, Ampledeed is a band that merits a check.
