BUDDHAS OF GOLDEN LIGHT

This was Pekka´s only release in the eighties. It´s part of his project to make a composition to each of 1000 Buddha´s incarnations, but I haven´t got any information has he finished this project. It´s possible, because he´s released so much and I think there are also unreleased material (this year he released album "Vertical Pillars" that has Buddha-compositions from the eighties). This was originally released from Pekka´s own O-label and has been long time very rare (and expensive!). Pekka released CDr-version in the 2003, but I was really glad when there came vinyl re-release last year from german Multiverse-records.

Album starts with "Sukirti" that´s also in Madam I´m Adam -compilation. Fast, tugging beat takes you immediately somewhere very deep atmosphere. Pekka starts to make interesting sounds with his roland synthesizer. In the middle of the piece his longtime musical companion Antero Helander joins with sax. But the sound of the sax is manipulated so strange, so that sounds also keyboard. Next "Suvarnasatarasmibhasagarbha" (from which language these Buddha´s names come?) is quite the opposite of the first one. It´s very beautiful, calm, played with very icy sounding keyboards. The third "Ratnasikhin" has also tugging beat, but it´s not as fast. Pekka´s playing into deep going, hard chords in this piece. This is also in the "Madam I´m Adam"-compilation. Last "Kandasuryapradipa" takes the whole b-side of the vinyl. It starts very relaxed beat and bell sounding keyboards, but very soon Pekka´s chords takes you somewhere really deep. The beat also changes compilicated. Although there is happening much in this long piece, it´s spiritual intensity keeps my interest it´s whole lenght.

I think Pekka is the most underrated musicmaker in Finland. On the other side I don´t think he has ever even search attention to his great work. I think he´s the only composer in Finland who seems not take any influences from any other musicmaker. Well, he´s said he start to make his guitar noise compositions after seeing Jimi Hendrix in Finland, but I think even he´s guitar works are very far away to Hendrix. I am not a big fan of only keyboard-made music, but in Pekka`s music I really love also his keyboardmusic albums although his music is greatest when somebody joins him in sax or guitar. Of course his music is not for everyone. I think you can say immediately do you like he´s music or not, so there is no use to try to listen him many times. As previous reviews show, he´s music seem to upset many people. Although I´m not also listened much that remix cd of Madam I`m Adam, I don´t think it´s just stupidity. In many other genres it has been quite common from the nineties made a remix albums too. Maybe it´s not very common in progmusic, but all you limited progfans, don´t ever even try to listen Pekka Airaksinen or Sperm.
