4 stars This Omega release is perhaps the last greatest contribution they made to the prog world. This reviewer recommends th Bellaphon English version as the lyrics are expertly translated from Hungarian to English with the assistance of a professional translator. The songs maintain their essence as they were initially penned in Hungarian. The engineering is superb and it is definitely a headphone album. This album reeks of prog both musically and conceptully. It is about a utopia which exists somewhere out in space which beckons. The strongest piece on the album is the graceful Return Of The Outcast. If you can find the English version go for it but the Hungarian version is great as well differing only in the vocal track. Very spacey!

3 stars This album started the new era in their work. In fact, many great bands of the 70s like Yes, Jethro Tull, Rick Wakeman began to play prog mainstream and pomp. In a majority, it was happened at the beginning of the 80s. "Gammapolis" is one of these albums. It contains from light musical structures of the past with some Mozart's influences. Also, there were many good tunes with expressive vocal of János Kóbor. This is a good album, where you will not find any awful songs. I think, that these compositions are best: Return of the outcast, Gammapolis. I recommend to find hungarian copy of this album, Omega's english is not very good.

2 stars This will be a short review. Many Omega fans consider this album as their best. The songs are melodic and very accessible, most of them sound pretty poppy. I would probably give it 4 stars as to a pop album, but as a prog one, it gets only 2 stars. Most of the tracks are just pop rock numbers with a specey feel provided by the keyboards anfd fairly simplistic in their structure. There are threee tracks I would consider proggy.Dawn in the city, Gammapolis 2 and to a certain extent also Silver rain. These are worth a high rating, but the others are as I have already mentioned just ordinary rock tracks with spacey feel here and then. Plus, there is bland pop ballad (Lady of the summer night) and two obvious filler tracks (Start and The man without a face).

Overall rating: 2 STARS
