THE DEAD SEA EP

Oh yeah, the internet and its magic gave me the chance of discovering this Australian post-rock band which at first was a solo project by Tim Bruniges, whose talent is undeniable once you listen to the music. His first EP was released in 2008 with that simple title of "The Dead Sea EP" and a year later he released a full-length album now with two musicians more. The EP I am reviewing features three short tracks that make a total time o 10 minutes of an original kind of post rock, that blends the atmospheric touches with emotional guitars.

It kicks off with "World Sham Pains" which is a wonderful opener track, I love how its sweetness progresses and in moments the sound becomes louder but more emotional, you can see a lot of things if you close your eyes and let the music do the talking. "Departure Gates" leaves the atmospheric background and starts with guitars and some programming, letting us know The Dead Sea has actually a lot to offer, it is not an ephemeral project, but a musician who has a true talent that must be spread and recognized by us who love good music. This second song is excellent, it contains that post rock sound, but it is very progressive, a true 5- minute gem I must say.

And finally "Respire", a three minute track that is more alike to the opener song, with an atmospheric background that let us breath and feel safe and sound, I think the second track was the main theme, which had an intro and an outro in tracks 1 and 3, so the three together are like an epic. I am pleased with this EP and now I really want to dig The Dead Sea's debut studio album, I am sure I will find something even more interesting. My final grade, despite I like it a lot is simply 2 stars, but do not pay attention to the rating.
