TURN ON TUNE IN FUCK OFF

Danish Dragontears released their third album at the beginning of this month. Although I really enjoy also the two previous albums (2000 Micrograms from Home, 2007 and Tambourine Freak Machine, 2008), this brand new one is possibly the best. So it's downright sad that Turn on Tune in Fuck off!! is at the same time also the last Dragontears album. The band's main figure, Baby Woodrose's Lorenzo Woodrose has decided that from now on he will incorporate also his weirdest and most psychedelic ideas into the albums of the main band. Well, it's of course a good thing considering the future Baby Woodrose albums! And these former and present members of On Trial and Baby Woodrose surely have several other projects as well.

As usual, Turn on Tune in Fuck off!! includes both shorter, rockier psych rock tunes and a long, hazy and floating track. The album begins with the relatively fast and hypnotic "Two Tongue Talk" that has for example fuzz, tremolo and organ and could have appeared also on some Baby Woodrose album. This is excellent going with plenty of psychedelic sounds! "No Salvation" is a garage rock blast based mostly on just one basic riff and it also includes some female backing vocals and 13th Floor Elevators styled psych sounds (electric jug). This one works extremely well too! "My Friend" is a beautiful, melancholic and touching acoustic psych folk piece that also includes plenty of hallucinatory sound effects. Amazing! "Time of No Time" begins with a minute-long Eastern drone and then starts the doomsday-trumpeting, excellent mid-tempo and groovy 60's styled rocking. There is a long, hypnotic section in the end that I also like very much. This track is possibly the best on the album! The over 13-minute-long "William" starts off quietly and peacefully with a hallucinatory sonic web and soon we also get some slow, small-scale rhythm and bass. Then the bubbling guitar patterns and floating vocals join in too. The atmosphere is really smoky and heady and stays like that until the end. The last minute or so is mostly just vague ringing bells and lysergic mush and then they go seamlessly into the album's final track called "Mennesketvilling". Like the previous track, this gloomy, slow and somehow apocalyptic song has Danish lyrics like Spids Nøgenhat, one other project by these guys. The track has superb, soaring guitar soloing like the whole album and it finishes off this unbelievable disc in suitably hazy moods. I don't have the album's vinyl version yet but the first 500 copies come with a bonus 7" so it's a must-have! It's also great that even if this project is about to end Dragontears will play a few more gigs next year for example at Roadburn Festival. You should go and see them live!
