2 stars I bought the original 2 LP release of "Peter Gabriel Plays Live" in 1985. Being it a very good live album, I listened to it again some months ago, and being myself with a bit of nostalgia for a time I wanted to buy the 2 CD version of this album, but I couldn`t find it. Instead, in the record shops there was this "Plays Live - Highlights" one CD edition, which obviously I didn`t buy. Why? Because to fit the album to one CD the record company deleted some tracks: "The Rhythm of the Heat", "Not One of Us", "Intruder", and the best song from the album: "On the Air". So, I was disappointed. Maybe one day I`m going to find the complete album released on 2 CDs to buy it. So, a good advice: don`t buy this one CD version. The original 2 CD version is much better.

1 stars A butcher´s work. I´m still trying to understand how one can be so insensitive to release a masterpiece like Plays Live and leave out songs so important. Ok, let´s say people have different opinions of what songs are important, but, please... not to include the stunning opener The Rhythm of The Heat is just too much. I remember the impact of that track when I first heard the original two LP set in the early 80´s. You knew it was something powerful and set the stage for what was to follow. Besides, this ´Highlights' (a very inappropriate title, as you may see) has only 64:50 minutes of recorded music, leaving 15 minutes of CD space that could have be filled with songs. And remember that only four tracks are missing from the original release. And still those tracks represent some of Gabriel´s best stuff.

In other words: there´s no justifying for this ugly job. I can understand a song or two missing due to lack of CD space, but the cutting off the opener and the room still available makes this ´Highlights one of the worst Compact Disc versions of an otherwise outstanding LPs ever done. By the two CD version. This one is to be avoided at all costs. Not even for completionists. Zero stars.
