THE EARLY CHAPTERS OF REVELATIONTherionProgressive Metal |
From Progarchives.com, the ultimate progressive rock music website

This three disc set gathers together Therion's first three albums, namely "Of darkness" (1991), "Beyond sanctorum" (1991) and "Symphony Masses - Ho Drakon Ho Megas" (1993). The bonus tracks included on subsequent reissues of those albums are also here.
Those who have discovered Therion through later albums such as "Theli", "Vovin", "Sirius B" etc. should approach this set with extreme caution. This is not the band who recorded those classic albums of operatic and symphonic metal. These albums are by a death metal band who revel in growling and heavy riffs. The band leader, Christofer Johnsson may be the same, but the rest of the line up is completely different.
The style of death metal is not quite as abrasive as others of that ilk, indeed at times the music borders on the melodic and there is the briefest of hints at the band's future direction. Such diversions are fleeting though, this set must be seen for what it is and indeed what it is not.
Those with an interest in the development of Therion will find this box set a useful way to explore their early years. I can only emphasise once again though, if you do not already know what to expect and come to this collection in search of more of Therion's unique sounds, you will not find what you seek here. Be warned also that the original packaging of the albums is replaced by matching artwork for the contents.
