TRUE OBSESSIONS

Marty Friedman needs no introduction, everybody who loves metal knows this guy . He is known specially from his awesome career he made in bands like Megadeth and Cacophony (where he share his abilities on guitar with another famous musician and guitar god - Jason Becker). He become famous because of his inteligent manner of execute every note he playes, specialy in Megadeth (some albums kick ass all the way). So Marty Friedman is a respected musician for more than 20 years showing that his place is among the best. After spliting Cacophony in 1989 he moves on Mustain desire to Megadeth, where he made history , while is was still in this band he wanted to purchase a solo career, finaly remaining only for a solo career in 1999 after demanding the departure from Megadeth. True obssesions id from 1996, he's forth album and an album under while he was still a Megadeth member. He also has some well known musicians on this album, like he's band fellow from Megadeth Nick Menza on drums, Greg Bissonette also on drums ( a talented and respected drumer worldwide, ex Steve Vai, Dave Lee Roth, etc), Carmine Appice another great drumer and omni present Tony Franklin on bass, the vocalist Stanley Rose is not so well known but did a good job here. So about the music, is something between hard rock with some more roughr sound in places not far from Megadeth, but don't expect this album to be a speed or something alike, is not. Is a typical guitarist album, with many great ideas, but is not grounbreaking, I prefer him in Megadeth or Cacophony. Friedman made some very good chops and intristing arrangements on guitar, showing he is able to create also something falueble under his name , not only in those two awesome bands he played - Megadeth and Cacophony. Some pieces are real awesome like Rock Box and Espionage,the rst are only ok. Something is bothering me , the voice is not feeting very well here, mainly because Rose voice is tipycal for hard rock , he not conviceing here, but not bad, only an usual voice. This is not a prog metal album, is more towards hard rock with some here and there hints from Megadeth soecialy of course in guitar side.There is also to many slow and mellow parts, contrary to what he's done in his early career or on other solo albums, not bad again, but not something special either. In conclusion a good album, who desearve some spins if you want to discover his solo career. A name that needs attention in guitar univers. 3 stars, good but non essential.
