MY MOMMY WANTS TO KILL YOUR MAMMA

This psychedelic album was the earliest record from the Croatian band I managed to find. I got interested of the group as I got opportunity to visit the beautiful city of Zagreb, from where this orchestra originates.

The sonic content appears hypnotically from electric wall of fuzz, where "My Mommy Wants To Kiss Your Mamma"'s logical mathematics explodes to wild stoner rock passages. Euphoric liberation in the pleasant chaos reflects to the sexuality strongly present on the band's thematic approach. Powerful and controlled riff themed rhythm flows free within the compositional frames, giving hints of the musical logics steering the chaos. Some cosmic space patterns also enrich this raid through the atavistic progressions. There is a neat switch to slower bluesy wandering, from where the title tune returns to vivid swirl. A show of good balance with chaos and control. "Space Cake Overload" defines the groups other theme of associations in addition of sex; Drums open this Black Sabbath oriented psychedelic anthem, which exploits fast guitar licks and focused to trio jamming. Synthesizers give some subtle support, and raise forth stronger in the end, creating a fine ambience for the OD's orgasmic culmination.

Following "Inhale Me / The Pink Garden Of Mistery" has a quiet starting (ingredients infusing still), slowly building musical tension from minimal themes. Hollow echoed voices lead to a fine mutual improvisation from the whole group. The song sticks to the dreamy straits even when arriving to the gardens, delicate growth of power ever dominating. Mystic transcendental shimmer of "Bliss My Cosmic Peach" gains the rhythm of down tempo bluesy wanderings. Jazzy runs open faster heavy sequence, and there are great bass phrasings interact with the guitar, sound textures resembling heavier and more spaced-out live jamming of 1968 Cream.

"Merry Mary's Sweet Inferno" is built from rhythmic passage with electronics, continuing the guitar driven aggressive sound. Wild whirlwinds of beatings search a new direction of abstract heavy acid rock assault, leading to "Black Liquorice / Tragic Boredom of The Universe". This mellow tune opens with tender echoed pickings, and reveals really beautiful cosmic cavern where Hawkwind-oriented gusts are blowing. Guitar presence escalates the level of chaos momentarily, but then returning to calmness radiating from near presence of nirvana. The album closes with slightly different hectic groovy kicks of "Naked Harem Flashback", going for more straightforward rocking and soloing, then taming as more spaced fuzz, slowing the pace constantly with patience, and reaching a good album ending.

Some association I got from the album were sounds of Jimi Hendrix, Earthless and Hotel Wrecking City Traders with conventional elements of space rock. In my opinion a really great album, if one is open to this kind of a ride. There is good balance keeping the music convincing and not going too far in the experimental adventuring. I believe the guitarist Niko Potočnjak personally yearned more hardcore experimentations, and the following records have different musicians with him, and the avant-gardist levels will be escalated. It is also good that there is progression and search of artistic expression, leading forward in life, and not sticking in same ideas, whatever might be the reception of a listener.
