3 stars Calprog 2006 official bootleg continues in the series featuring all 5 of the bands that performed in the third show in 2006. This is the first time the CD comes as a mixed down digital multi track recording. Compared to the first two, and not to put them down because the audio is great, this was a stellar improvement!

The festival is maturing and it comes across with the diversity of these 4 bands. We start with two songs from Helmet of Gnats a great fusion band from Connecticut, Yesterday's Brain and Tsunami. I wish they had released their cover of Return to Forever's Majestic Dance but we can't have everything. The newly reformed for this show, Rocket Scientists, cover of King Crimsons Epitaph is their only inclusion but seeing as how they only had three weeks to prepare for this show I can understand their limited amount of contribution. They stepped in admirably for Presto Ballet who canceled because their drummer quit. For the first time we have performances by the dinner time Patio Band IZZ lite. Yes three members of IZZ made the trek from NYC to play for our supper. Seeing they only had a acoustic guitar/piano and lead guitar with two vocalists they did a great job on the two songs here Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell and Peter Gabriel's Red Rain. The highlight of 2006 was Cryptic Vision and we get two great reasons why on this CD. First of all is their powerful song Power to Mend from In a World and their Progledy which consist of 6 different classic prog songs including yodeling! This one is rounded off by a great Kino medley Picture/Losers Day Parade. John Mitchel John Beck and Pete Trewavas put on a stellar performance.

All of the performances were great and you can feel this festival start to mature in this recording. Jim Harrel the promoter of Calprog takes great pride in the sound produced at his festival and these bootleg series CD's show why. Years 2004 and 2005 are a little strange because everything is right off the board but it is still very clear but this recording takes it to higher place. You can only get these CDs from Calprogs Web site WWW.Calprog.com and there is a generous audio sample of each CD to listen too.
