4 stars Do you like old school electronic progressive music ? KLAUS SCHULZE, TANGERINE DREAM? Then this band is for you! "...You will experience some of the finest electronic musicians, and not machines, that Germany has to offer..." says the announcer to introduce the band on stage... and he's right.

As the line-up increased to six people, "The Third Dimension" features more than synthesizers and computer programming : flute, electric guitar and even saxophone. Following in the pioneers' steps, this live record offers new soundscapes that are not on the official releases. The music is both inspired from their early synthetic period and from their recent soft days.

The disc opens with "See You Soon/Meet the Sax", a beautiful sequenced tune, which reminds me a lot of TANGERINE DREAM's "Mojave Plan" and Chris Huelsbeck. "Touch the Flute" is an enjoyable ambient track. One can hear Klaus Schulze's and Edgar Froese's inspiration on "Face the Future". The saxophone comes back in "Cry for More", an enchanting song which transports to celestial horizons, and then to stratosphere with "World of Secrets". The performance ends in a mysterious jungle auditive place...

This live album from SOFTWARE features the band in great form as well as a good overview of their style. Although they may sound simplistic in comparison to essential 70's electronic progressive masters, SOFTWARE's music is very accessible and enjoyable. A must for old electronica lovers!
