4 stars The last in line of ten classic Masada albums. Recoded by classic John Zorn's Masada quartet, album's music is far from any form of progressive rock, it is perfect example of free-jazz mixed with klezmer ( traditional Jewish music).

Album's sound is perfect. Acoustic and light music solos are mixed with great hot sounds of klezmer. There are line of 10 Masada classic albums, which in fact are quite similar between each other ( at least that part of them I listened). That musical combination is very successful, and is one of most accessible way to entry John Zorn's music . From other hand, after great pleasure of listening first of Masada albums, you will find next of them quite similar ,not so fresh and sometimes repetitive.

Whenever I 'm living in a place with great klezmer music history and traditions, I have the possibility to listen this music in different forms live quite often. Still this summer we had Klezmer fest with great NY jazz musician (and Zorn's collaborator on some his solo albums) Frank London jamming with domestic stars of modern jazz. So I can compare - as for year of release it was great album and perfect introduction to that kind of music. But for today, free jazz + klezmer formula is much more developed and contains some excellent musical examples.

But still very good album, the one which can open the door for newcomers to John Zorn's more complex projects and to free-jazz/klezmer musical world as well.

Strong 3,55
