THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION: FREAK OUT!

WARNING! GENIUS AT WORK!! This should be put as a sticker on the cover of "Freak Out". Zappa'a long and illustrious career starts here, and although The Mothers weren't great instrumentists, they fitted Zappa's sound perfectly. This album has everything we all love in Zappa (exceptly his guitar playing, which wasn't proeminently featured here): humorous lyrics, carefully crafted songs, sound collages, funny vocals and, although still primitive, creative arrangements. I recommend this album to everyone interested in how rock became to progress. "Freak Out" is a perfect and cynical encyclopedia of 60s rock musi! Highlights: "Who are the brain police?", the hilarious doo-wop "Go cry on somebody's else shoulder", "Motherly love" (this sounds me as a knife stabbed at the heart of the "summer of love"), "You're probably wondering why I'm here" and the bizarre collage "The return of the son of Monster Magnet" (wow, and there still are people who calls "Revolution #9" a grounbreaking work).
