5 stars Well, not much to add. This album has a special place in my memory, being one of a few albums that opened my up to music (and prog in particular) in my college days. This is, quite simply, a perfect album. There are no weak tracks, the playing by all is outstanding and the mostly instrumental nature of the album appeals to me greatly. This is the only Santana studio CD I own and it is IMO the best one by far (though I have not heard them all, admittedly). The vocal songs work extremely well here, with Rollie being the best singer Santana ever had. And, of course, the guitar playing is sublime. As is pointed out in other reviews, Santana music just seems to exude joy and happiness. And it does it with sublime musical skill.

I've never thought of Santana as prog, but this album certainly fits the genre well, being almost like a concept album, if not actually intended as such. A great album for anyone to hear.
