Nowhere Man
5 stars My favorite from Kansas and one of my favorite albums of all time. The height of Kansas; an exquisite peice of prog rock. A breif overview of the songs:

Carry On Wayward Son - Exceptionally. This song alone prompted me to purchase the Best Of Kansas and was the start of my interest in prog rock.

The Wall - Well crafted and deep musically and lyrically. One of Kansas's best and most progressive songs. And excellent example of the band's majestic style.

What's On My Mind - Similar to Carry On with heavy, energetic and intricate guitar. Smooth and catchy.

Miracles Out Of Nowhere - One of my very favorite Kansas tracks. Blends a variety of instruments and sounds. Original and very progressive. Some of my favorite violin from Robby Steinhardt.

Opus Insert and Questions Of My Childhood - Both very good tracks, however they are the type of the songs you typically forget about. They are overshadowed by the deeper tracks on the album.

Cheyenne Anthem - A quiet acoustic guitar and piano track that is brilliant in its simplicity. The instrumental sythesizer section in the middle seems a bit out of place, but it doesn't really hurt.

Magnum Opus - An agressive and dramatic finish. One of the most recognizebly prog songs on here. A longish song devided into several humorously titled subsections. Another of the bands most exceptional tracks (there are quite a few of those on here), and a very satisfying close to a most satisfying album.

On the remastered CD, you also get the live versions of Carry On and Cheyenne. Good stuff. I actually like this version of Cheyenne better than the studio one.

I get the distict feeling that people who believe Kansas isn't very prog haven't heard this album. This is one of the finest presentations of prog rock that I know of. Highest recommentdations.
