5 stars Hyperborea is one of the very few albums by TD that I enjoy listening to from beginning to end. I have almost the entire Discography by TD in my collection - if only for the odd piece on most albums, leaving me to wade through wast quantities of boring filler material.

Yes, it takes quite an effort to extricate the one, or two excellent pieces from most soundtracks and I am quite cross with Froese about it, not mentioning the $$$ spent! In reality, I have resorted to taping my own preferred compilation and let many LPs, CDs gather dust at the back of the cabinets.

Here, I am dealing with one of the few exceptions. Stylistically somewhat different, but altogether in the same category with "Tangram", "Force Majeure" "White Eagle" and even "Underwater Sunlight". Albums that please as a whole.

Rather laid back rhythms and dark melodies alternate in the right sequence creating due tension and held back energy to be nicely released in the end. Just superb!

One thing puzzles me, though. Knowing Froese as a rather perfectionist in sound quality, the original LP has a noticeably muddy sound, that's also present on the CD version. I could never tell if its a flaw, or intended to create a more mysterious effect?

Hyperborea was later re-released in a slightly different format and I am yet to hear it. This, original version remains amongst the faves of TD's works.
