ATOM HEART MOTHER

After reading recent reviews I had to listen to the album again. The symphonic side-long title suite is their most progressive work co-written and arranged by Scottish composer Ron Geesin. The suite is really good although it's starts to drag near the end because of some aimless experimentation. Fortunately recapitulation of the main theme makes things good again. I like Geesin's use of orchestra and choir. This makes the music sound like a Morricone Spaghetti Western soundtrack. Next tracks are good for relaxing but musically nothing special. The last track "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" is an exception. It's a weird mix of kitchen sounds with relaxing music. It makes me want to eat if I listen with an empty stomach but it's really an enjoyable listen when I'm trying to fall asleep... Overall, this album lacks direction and is not on par with their later masterpieces. Nevertheless, it has some good moments. "Atom Heart Mother Suite" earns the album 4 points!
