3 stars Non-Floyd fans need not apply. This albums merits are mostly historical. With Syd Barret gone the Floyd needed to totally change the core of their sound. In this effort Roger tenatively takes the lead with a few mildly interesting space-rock pop songs and a Syd insanity clone in the coolest track Corperal Clegg. But the efforts to expand their musical bounderies with the title track and Set the Controls are not up to the quality of their latter work. The title track is at best interesting but mostly annoying. Set the Controls starts you on a journey as Floyd's best does but never gets anywhere. Overall the album is a nice look at a growing band but not a good pure listen.
